78How To Dress As Your Favorite Character From Glee
If you're like me, you dread trying to come up with a fun and creative Halloween costume every year. My worst nightmare came true last year, when a close friend of mine had her bachelorette party on Halloween. Mandatory costumes. Of course I procrastinated and at the last minute slapped some eyeliner on my cheeks, put on an Eagles' jersey, and was the lamest looking football player ever. In an effort to help others avoid that kind of situation, I thought I'd share some advice on easy ways to dress as your favorite character from my favorite TV show: Glee! The characters in Glee provide a variety of fairly easy costume ideas for people of all shapes and sizes. Check out my suggestions below the picture, find some fellow Gleeks to dress up with you, and get your trick-or-treat on, Glee club style!

Will Schuester Costume
Dressing up like Will Schuester (aka "Mr. Schu") is a piece of cake. Especially if you are a guy who's blessed with naturally curly blond hair. If not, find yourself a curly blond wig. Preferably one that you can slick back with styling gel, inspiring a mean-spirited rival to suggest that she'd like to use your head to season her wok.
Once your hair is under control, all you need is a blue button-down shirt, a tie, and a grey or black vest (like the one featured on the right). Jeans or khakis and a pair of black casual shoes will finish off the look. The great thing about this costume is that most guys will already own several of the necessary components, and the other items (with the possible exception of the curly wig) are things you can wear in your real life.
Sue Sylvester Costume
My favorite Glee character, by far, is Sue. She's got the best lines, and her distinctive look lends itself to becoming a great Halloween costume. If you're a tall woman with short, spiky blond hair, you won't have to do much to transform yourself into Sue. Heck, if you're a guy with short spiky blond hair, you could probably pull it off too. Otherwise, you'll need a spiky blond wig.
The rest of the costume is a piece of cake. Got an Adidas track suit? Then you're all set. Don't have one? Then consider buying one, and remember that your new Halloween costume will double as the most comfortable outfit ever for many future Sunday lounging sessions. Any color track suit will do, as long as the jacket matches the pants. And if you want to really get into it, find a megaphone you can borrow to carry as a prop.
Once your costume is all set, you'll want to memorize some biting remarks to dish out to other party-goers. A great collection of hilarious Sue quotes can be found here.
Glee Cheerleader Costume
There are lots of options for women when it comes to the McKinley High Cheerio squad. You can wear a blond ponytail and a cheering uniform and call yourself Quinn Fabray. You can add a pillow under your cheering uniform and call yourself a pregnant Quinn Fabray, a la the end of Season One. You can wear a blond ponytail, speak in an airheady deadpan voice, put on a cheering uniform and call yourself Britney Pierce. Or you can wear a dark brown or black ponytail, stuff your bra, put on a cheering uniform and call yourself Santana Lopez.
For any of these costumes, you'll want a red & white cheerleader uniform. If you can find one with "WMHS" stitched across the top, even better. If not, consider getting some iron-on letters and customizing the blank shirts shown on the right. To get in character, practice acting popular!
Rachel Berry Costume
First and foremost, Rachel is a star. So from the moment you decide to dress as Rachel for Halloween, you should start channeling your inner Broadway star. You should be hearing Barbra Streisand in your head at all times. If you have a good voice, all the better -- consider breaking into song on occasion.
For the outfit, you'll need long dark hair, and you'll need to dress like a stylish-yet-dorky schoolgirl. Suggested attire: plaid skirt, white knee socks, Mary Janes, and a white collared shirt under a cable-knit sweater. If you want to really give it your all, you should carry a pink binder with shiny star-shaped stickers all over it. Remember -- nothing is more important to Rachel than her quest to become a star!
Glee Football Player Costume
While all of the popular girls out there are putting their hair up and getting into their cheering duds, the popular guys should be digging out their old football jerseys and varsity jackets. The McKinley High football team offers guys a variety of costume options.
For the tall, lanky quarterback types out there, a single-digit jersey and some slightly messy brown hair are all you need to turn yourself into Finn Hudson. For the more adventurous types who are willing to shave their heads into a dark mohawk, put on a varsity jacket and grab a guitar, and voila -- you're Noah Puckerman (aka "Puck"). And for skinny guys with access to a wheelchair and some glasses, put on a jersey and hold a football in your lap to become Artie Abrams (McKinley's oddest new addition to the football team).
Emma Pillsbury Costume
Any women out there with men in their lives who are getting in touch with their inner Will Schuester this year, consider transforming yourself into McKinley High's quirky guidance counselor, Emma Pillsbury.
The look involves conservative (yet brightly-colored) wool skirts and cardigan sweater sets (preferably with bows or flowers on them). Shoulder-length red hair and unnaturally large eyes will finish the look. A great prop would be a pamphlet (make your own!) that says something hilarious like "There's Hair Down There!" on the front.
To really get in character, you'll also need to acquire a mild case of OCD and an extreme case of germaphobia. Carrying plastic gloves and hand sanitizer at all times would be advisable.
