Christmas Gift Ideas for Boyfriends - Christmas Gifts for Men - 10 Good Christmas Gifts for Him 2010
60How to Choose Christmas Gifts for Men
Are you wracking your brain trying to come up with the perfect Christmas gift idea for your boyfriend? Are you stumped trying to think of a Christmas present for your husband? Hopefully this hub will help. Picking the right Christmas gifts for boyfriends, husbands, and any other men in your life can be difficult, no matter how long or how briefly you've known them -- in my opinion, it's even harder than picking gifts for women. Deciding what to get, how much to spend, and how many Christmas gifts are enough Christmas gifts can be stressful. Below my picture of last year's Christmas tree, you'll find a list of ten Christmas present ideas for ten different types of guys, guaranteed to please your boyfriend or husband on Christmas morning in 2010. Happy shopping!
1. For the Music Loving Guy
If you're shopping for a present for a guy who loves music, there's no better gift idea than an iPod. The newest generation of iPods offers something for everyone without necessarily breaking your bank. Is your boyfriend a runner or someone who listens to music at the gym? If so, the newest Nano is super tiny, clips onto clothing easily to stay in place as you move, and holds more music than anyone could get through in one workout. Does your husband listen to music on a train commuting to work, and would he like to sample some game apps along the way? If so, check out the iPod Touch.
2. For the High Powered Guy
If you're shopping for a guy who wears business attire to work, cufflinks make a nice gift. You can find all kinds of styles to suit guys of all shapes and sizes -- from clean and simple silver squares, to styles with colored stones embedded in them, to cufflinks personalized with your boyfriend's monogram. You can also find nice cufflinks at lots of different price levels. A lot of guys might balk at the idea of jewelry shopping for themselves, but most guys want to look good when they get dressed up and will appreciate your efforts to help them do that.
3. For the Artistic Guy
If you're shopping for a guy who enjoys taking pictures -- whether he's interested in casual snapshots at a baseball game with friends, or carefully planned photographs of the sun setting over the Grand Canyon -- a good camera makes a great gift. My boyfriend and I looked at a bunch of makes and models of DSLR cameras before heading out on a road trip this summer, and we settled on the Canon EOS Rebel T1i. It took beautiful pictures in all levels of light, and it can even take HD video. Learning how to use more complicated cameras like this (with so many more options than a typical point-and-shoot) can seem daunting, but it's easier than it looks, and the picture quality will blow you away.
If you're shopping for a guy who already owns a good camera, consider getting him a camera-related accessory. For example, a good telephoto zoom lens will dramatically expand the range of distances at which he can take great pictures, and a good camera bag will make life easier when he's traveling with his camera.
And if the DSLR cameras are above your price range, take a look at a Flip Video Camera. They're small, easy to use, and they take a couple hours of HD video. More fun than a traditional, point-and-shoot digital camera.
4. For the Sleepy Guy
If you're shopping for a guy who likes to spend a lazy Sunday lounging around the house -- and, let's face it, have you ever met a guy who DOESN'T like to do that? -- a good pair of flannel pajama pants makes a great Christmas present. The women in my family have established a long-standing tradition of buying the men in the family new flannel PJ pants every Christmas, and each year the patterns on the pants get crazier (my brother-in-law has a great pair of yellow pants with bottles of Guinness all over, and my dad has a very woodsy-looking red pair with black Elk heads everywhere). If you're just starting out, you might want to go with a safer, more traditional plaid pair...
5. For the Reading Guy
If you're shopping for a guy who loves to read, give some thought to getting him a Kindle. I realize that there are avid readers out there who adamantly oppose the idea of electronic reading devices. And if your boyfriend falls in that category, this might not be the idea for him. But as an avid reader, lover of books, and Kindle owner myself, I can tell you that getting a Kindle was one of the best decisions I've made. The ability to carry dozens of books with you when you travel, without actually carrying dozens of books in your suitcase, is simply amazing. The ability to have newspapers and magazines wirelessly delivered to your Kindle is a great feature too. Many classic books are free or nearly free, and new releases are often cheaper on the Kindle than the hardcover version in the store. Finally, the Kindle's screen -- which does not have backlighting like many other eReaders do -- does a good job of mimicking the look of an actual page and, as a result, avoids the eye strain that comes from staring at something that resembles a computer screen.
6. For the Punctual Guy
If you're shopping for a guy you don't know very well yet (e.g., a new boyfriend), a guy who always likes to be five minutes early, a guy who needs help getting places on time, or if you're simply stumped about what to get your brother this year, a nice watch always makes a good gift. Besides cufflinks, a watch is probably the only piece of jewelry nearly every guy will readily consider wearing. And like cufflinks, watches come in all shapes, sizes, styles, and price ranges.
7. For the Gaming Guy
If you're shopping for a guy who loves video games, there are all kinds of video game systems, games, and accessories that could make great gift options. I'm a Wii girl myself, but my boyfriend is devoted to his Xbox. Recently, he started making sure I know about the newest thing in the land of the Xbox, which is something called Kinect. Basically, this technology will somehow enable the games to track and respond to the movements your body makes. In other words, if you're playing a soccer game, you'll kick and move your own feet to make your player in the game do the same thing. Crazy, right? Who wouldn't love to be able to spend Christmas afternoon experimenting with something like that?
8. For the Beer Drinking Guy
If you're shopping for a guy who loves beer, the men in my family will tell you that a cool set of pint glasses make an ideal present. You can find pint glasses that might appeal to guys with all kinds of interests -- pint glasses with your husband's favorite kind of beer stamped on the side, pint glasses sporting your brother's favorite football team's logo, or unique pint glasses with your boyfriend's initials on the side. So many pint glasses, so little time...
9. For the Sports Guy
If you're shopping for a guy who is a serious sports fan, consider checking out jerseys, T-shirts or other items displaying his favorite team's logo or his favorite player's number. Last year, I got my boyfriend -- a loyal Boston Celtics fan -- tickets to see the Celtics play the Sixers in Philadelphia, and a cool long-sleeved Celtics T-shirt to wear to the game. Needless to say, the gifts were a huge hit and, quite possibly, are the reason we're still together. The options are endless when it comes to sports shirts, sweatshirts, jackets, and hats. If you get lucky, you might run across a pair of flannel PJ pants decorated with the logo of your boyfriend's favorite team, which would kill two gift ideas from this list with one stone, so to speak.
10. For the Handy Guy
If you're shopping for a real man's man who spends his weekends tinkering and fixing and hammering things, figure out what's missing from his tool set and, voila, you've got the perfect Christmas present. I won't pretend to know the first thing about tools, but the links to the right are a start for anyone out there who's too scared to venture alone into a Home Depot.
